How Chelsea’s Cole Palmer really feels about being a squad player for England at Euro 2024

Cole Palmer, a star player for Chelsea and one of the best in the Premier League last season, was passed over by England manager Gareth Southgate for Euro 2024.

Cole Palmer made 45 appearances for Chelsea in the 2023–2024 season, tallying 25 goals and 15 assists.

But he only played a few minutes for England during Tuesday’s 0-0 draw between the Three Lions and Slovenia at the Euros.

Palmer did not take the pitch at all in their opening two tournament games.

But after his cameo against Slovenia, the 22-year-old delighted former Manchester United captain Roy Keane, who praised him as a “amazing player” on ITV.

Cole Palmer is currently a borderline player.
Although Palmer was Chelsea’s star player the previous season, he is merely considered England’s backup.

Despite this, the former Manchester City player doesn’t seem very dissatisfied with his position under Southgate.

Journalist Ben Jacobs claims that he has genuinely come to terms with it.

“Palmer has been a model professional at his first major tournament with the senior England squad,” wrote Jacobs in his Substack column. He acknowledges his place on the team.

“There is no indication he has expressed any concerns over his lack of playing time despite scoring 25 goals in all competitions last season and being one of the Premier League’s best players,” Jacobs continued.

Is Cole Palmer going to start for England in the elimination round?
Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, and other talented attacking players are among England’s numerous talented players.

Despite their inventiveness and potential as an attacking unit, the Three Lions’ front line is currently underperforming.

It’s a little disheartening to have only two goals in a group with Denmark, Slovenia, and Serbia.

Palmer has demonstrated that he might make a fantastic replacement for someone like Saka or Foden, for example, and at this point, Southgate really does need to attempt something different.

In the end, Palmer most likely merits an opportunity to play in England’s upcoming match, but it is difficult to see Southgate benching a front-line player for the Chelsea player.
