‘I think it will rule him out’ is the reason why John Textor might now avoid taking over Sheffield Wednesday following Wolves’ offer.

This post is a part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which offers our FLW Fan Pundits their personal thoughts on teams, players, managers, breaking news, possible signings, and more.

Although Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship relegation now seems inevitable, there is cause for optimism and hope for the Owls’ future despite their terrible off-field experience.

Following Hillsborough’s placement into administration and subsequent 12-point deduction from the EFL, Dejphon Chansiri has finally left the team.

Even though administration is frequently—and still is—an even more worrisome event for a club, it does now enable Wednesday to be sold to serious investors and potential buyers, who Chansiri may have prohibited.

American investor John Textor was one of those potential purchasers; it has since been claimed that he has bid £400 million to acquire Wolverhampton Wanderers, a Premier League team.

John Textor’s interest in Wolves should exclude him from buying Sheffield Wednesday.

Although John Textor, the owner of Botafogo, has been embroiled in a great deal of controversy due to his actions at Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyonnais, he was apparently seen as a possible savior in South Yorkshire.

However, FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday Fan Pundit Patrick McKenna thinks any deal involving Textor and the Owls is already over due to a combination of Wednesday’s administration options suddenly becoming available and his rumored interest in Wolves.

Patrick states: “I believe that John Textor will not be able to purchase Sheffield Wednesday if he makes a significant bid to take over at Wolves.

In order to protect the club, the administrators will want the serious bidders to enter right away.

The problem with Textor was that he was constantly busy. He’s juggling the ownership of multiple clubs and he kind of seemed a man that was going to go and save us pre-administration.

Because of how chaotic his previous ownership was, I don’t think he’ll be able to impress the administrators.

He might have been able to provide a solution prior to administration, but now that the administrators are in place and will want to sell the club as soon as possible, I believe he is out of the running.

“I believe that there are and will be better solutions available. I wish him luck at Wolves, but I believe that Sheffield Wednesday may have sold him out.

With John Textor, Sheffield Wednesday will think they’ve escaped a bullet.

Supporter discontent has occurred at almost every team that John Textor has been engaged, including Botafogo, which won the Brazilian Serie A under his leadership.

Lyon was administratively demoted to Ligue 2 by the French football authorities this summer before escaping that fate thanks to a successful appeal, but Textor has still been forced to move away from the club.

Textor’s involvement at Lyon, UEFA Europa League qualifiers, also resulted in Crystal Palace, a club in whom he previously had a significant investment, being relegated to the UEFA Europa Conference League following their FA Cup victory.

Even supporters of Belgian minnows Racing White Daring Molenbeek have been dissatisfied with his actions, despite their promotion to the first division during his tenure.

Textor will believe he can turn around a falling Wolves side, but it could be a blessing in disguise, as they are avoiding a bullet by diverting focus away from Hillsborough.
