According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal has sent scouts to Girona in order to hunt down left-back Miguel Gutiérrez, who is also being chased by a number of teams in Europe.

Ever since the 22-year-old made his debut for Real Madrid in 2021, the Gunners have shown interest in trying to acquire his services. The Gunners have reportedly sent scouts to Girona in recent weeks to observe a prodigy who was born in 2001 and is currently under contract with Girona until 2027. Romano confirmed this information.

It is generally accepted that Madrid is interested in the full-back, despite the fact that no other potential bidders for the defender have been identified.

Before moving to Girona for a fee of four million euros in 2022, Gutiérrez worked his way up through the ranks of Real Madrid’s youth program. He has a fifty percent sell-on clause in his contract with the Spanish giants, but considering that Fran Garcia and Alphonso Davies are set to be sold, it is quite doubtful that Guttierez will be moved.

It is reasonable to assume that Girona would like to keep the Spaniard until the summer, but if a significant offer is made in January, the Catalan club could be forced to sell him anyhow.

Has a new left-back been brought in?

Following the approval of a loan transfer for Kierney to Real Sociedad during the summer, the Gunners are currently evaluating their options at left defender.

Nuno Tavares joined Nottingham Forest on a loan agreement with a buy option, leaving Oleksandr Zinchenko as the only recognised left defender in the team. This was despite the fact that Olympique Marseille had a successful run in the French League.

The outstanding performances that Gutierrez has put up for Girona, who are currently in the lead in La Liga, have aroused the curiosity of scouts. The Spaniard has contributed one assist in a total of 12 games across all competitions. The full-back has displayed remarkable attacking and defensive ability, which has contributed to Girona’s surprising climb to football prominence.

Arsenal is keeping a close watch on the development of the 22-year-old player, who has made 46 appearances for Girona. His extraordinary performances have generated major interest, and Arsenal is trying to stay up with his progress.

The fact that Gutierrez is one of the best inverted fullbacks in Europe is essential to Mikel Arteta’s tactical style. Arteta favours fullbacks who are able to invert into the midfield and serve as a conduit for fluid transitions between the defence and the offence.
