Ian Wright, a highly respected figure in the history of Arsenal, has secured a new position following his departure from the BBC.
Tonight, Arsenal legend Ian Wright will be joining Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football as a guest summariser. He will be alongside former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.
Wright has consistently appeared on BBC’s Match of the Day and has also served as a commentator for ITV Sport for the FA Cup and England’s men’s and women’s international matches. Nevertheless, in December, the ex-forward declared his intention to resign from his role as a commentator on the show that features the most important moments of a game.
In a Twitter post, he elucidated his choice, stating, “Following my initial appearance on the show as a player in 1997 and numerous other remarkable years, I will be withdrawing from BBC MOTD at the conclusion of this season.” I am really fortunate to have had such an extraordinary tenure on the most renowned football program globally.
At the start of this campaign, Wright was introduced as a co-host on the Stick to Football podcast, sponsored by Sky Bet, alongside well-known Sky Sports personalities: Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, and Jill Scott. This marked his initial venture into punditry with the broadcaster and seems to have paved the way for his premiere on Monday Night Football today.
The very detailed and analytical show has gained notoriety for its strategic approach to commentary, and following the Chelsea vs Newcastle United game, Wright will explore his remarkable career in depth. Prior to the start of the match, it is anticipated that Wright would analyze the Arsenal team, who emerged victorious with a 2-1 score over Brentford. This win propelled Mikel Arteta’s side to the top of the Premier League standings, positioning them favorably in the title fight, particularly following Manchester City’s draw against Liverpool.
