Gabriel Jesus has declared that he is “able to play football again” after dedicating the summer to improving his physical conditioning in the wake of 18 months of knee issues.

The Brazil international scored against Manchester United in a friendly match in Los Angeles on Saturday night and generally displayed a strong all-around performance as he endeavours to establish momentum leading into the new campaign.

It is a positive development, as the 27-year-old had suggested in April that he may require additional surgery. He has successfully avoided the worst-case scenario and has spent the summer sharing updates of his rigorous holiday gym routines with pride.

He seems to be in a more favourable state of mind and body, as he reflects: “My most recent preseason was not favourable due to knee discomfort, which necessitated surgery and necessitated my absence from the entire preseason.” I attempted to force it during that pre-season, but in the end, I was unable to do so and underwent surgery.

“It was somewhat challenging to return after that, but this season is distinct.” I was able to thoroughly enjoy my holidays, and I subsequently trained extensively. I was determined to perform well in the preseason and return to the field in excellent condition. I am now in a distinct physical condition and am able to resume playing football.

Mikel Arteta, the manager, is similarly enthusiastic. He will be anticipating that a revitalised Jesus will enable him to save a few pounds, as he had initially sought a new striker at the commencement of the transfer window.

He appears to be in excellent condition, and his appearance is particularly polished,” stated the manager following Saturday’s victory.

“He has made numerous adjustments over the summer and has returned in peak condition.” Other things can be constructed once the baseline is established; however, without it, we lack a player, and he must be in that condition to achieve his maximum potential.

“He has come to the realisation that, and I am extremely pleased with the performance he demonstrated today.” The spark is evident in his eyes, the way he moves, and the way he appears.

Arteta was similarly optimistic about Jesus during last year’s US tour; however, the player was almost immediately lost for the first two games of the season.

“Gabi, today, did not score; however, it was the most impressive Gabi performance I have witnessed in months,” he stated following the 5-3 victory over Barcelona. “Transmitting that energy, that conviction.” He was generating a significant amount of pandemonium, as well as a significant number of positive moments, and he was enhancing the lives of all individuals.

I am optimistic that there will be no obstacles this time.
