Erik ten Hag has been warned over his management of Alejandro GarnachoAlejandro Garnacho was a vital member of Erik ten Hag’s squad the previous season, but Alexis Mac Allister, a rival player, has advised Manchester United manager to handle the winger with caution.Erik ten Hag has been cautioned by Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister not to overwork Alejandro Garnacho.

Mac Allister and Garnacho were both members of the Argentina team that won the Copa America this past summer. Garnacho only appeared in the final group encounter, despite the fact that the Liverpool player started all but one of the games.

The Manchester United player came into the competition fresh off his team’s historic season. Throughout all competitions, he made 50 appearances with the Red Devils and recorded 10 goals and 5 assists.

With the right-wing berth in Ten Hag’s lineup now his to lose, the Argentine is expected to play a significant role once more this campaign. However, Mac Allister, United’s international teammate, thinks United should exercise caution.

The midfielder for Liverpool has praised both Garnacho and Valentin Carboni, a fellow young Argentine. However, he also emphasised that the nation and the club should exercise caution to avoid having high expectations of them.

The week following Argentina’s Copa victory, Mac Allister told the YouTube channel “AFA Estudio,” “He hasn’t played much, but in training he has shown what he’s worth, I think he has earned the respect of the team.”

Both he and Garnacho are highly valuable players for Argentina. They really thrill us. We’re quite optimistic about their future. They will give us a lot in the future, but for now we can’t put too much pressure on them.”

Garnacho caught the eye for United last season, memorably scoring an overhead kick away at Everton. In the reverse fixture he won both of his side’s penalties in a 2-0 win, drawing praise from boss Ten Hag.

“He is progressing very well. We’re very pleased with this. His contribution today was huge with his runs and dribbles. He’s effective for the audience as well. We want to show something – dribbles – well-deserved penalties,” the Dutchman said.

“He is a player that needs a challenge and likes one. Our job is to push him to high levels. He has high potential and we have to get the potential out and therefore you have to work day by day.

“It is only about him, if he can keep the focus and if he puts the right effort in, he keeps the focus, sometimes for young players it is difficult. We have their job to do.”

It was not all smooth sailing though, with Garnacho forced to apologise to Ten Hag for ‘liking’ tweets criticising his management following a trip to Bournemouth, in which the winger was substituted.
