Man United star Mason Mount has already shown true Thomas Tuchel colours amid Erik ten Hag pressure

So far in his managerial career, just six players have combined to score and assist on more than 19 goals under Thomas Tuchel. Maybe it’s not surprising, since under his leadership, not a single man has reached 100 appearances.

Regardless, the names under Tuchel on an output list are huge names. Angel Di Maria, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe have all accomplished the aforementioned goal. In 45 games, Harry Kane notched 44 goals and 12 assists, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also contributed nearly one goal every ninety minutes.

Together with Andreas Ivanschitz of Mainz, Christian Pulisic of Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have contributed 19 goals and 19 assists for Tuchel. The only other is Mason Mount.

Mount played 87 games under Tuchel in just 18 months at Stamford Bridge, recording double digits in goals and assists in the Premier League in 2021–2022, assisting in the winning goal in the Champions League final, and becoming an essential member of the team both at home and abroad. In his 14 months at United, he has made 25 appearances overall, starting 11 of them, scoring one goal, and providing one assist.

He has had a severe decline in performance, losing his berth for England, struggling with form and fitness, and receiving little attention. It is unlikely that this would have been less true at Chelsea under Tuchel.

Under Tuchel, Mount participated in all but 13 games and served as the creative center of a team that lacked boldness. He was a well-behaved tactical piece who was used all around the pitch, increasing his production. It should come as no surprise that he became well-liked right away in southwest London.

“I remember we had a meeting in the morning,” Mount says while speaking about the trust day that Tuchel oversaw following Frank Lampard’s firing in January 2021. “The week flew by; it was quite hectic. Since I’ve never experienced anything like this before, are you only attempting to determine what should happen next? What comes next? What will the following day hold?

“During our meeting, Tuchel listed all of the things he wanted us to do, including how he liked us to play and manage. After he finished telling us everything, we practiced outside and played a game the following day. It was quite the abrupt change, but we found it quite easy to adjust since he was so explicit about what he wanted, how he wanted us to play, and what our duties and responsibilities were.

As players, we saw right away how he provides his game plan. It made it simple for us to enter the pitch and complete the task. We are players that respond to that as a team and rapidly adjust. We want to participate in these major sports and take home trophies since it made things simple. That has always been our objective, and ever since he joined, he has encouraged us, giving us the chance to participate in the championship game and win important games.”
