Man United to compete with Man City in the signing of £85m Brazilian star midfielder who Ten Hag really admires

As per a report in the Express, Manchester United may consider competing with Manchester City for the acquisition of West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta.

The Hammers are hesitant to part with the Brazilian star due to his high rating, but there are rumors that if a team is willing to provide approximately £85 million, David Moyes will permit his departure at the conclusion of current season.

Manchester City has been consistently associated with the 26-year-old offensive midfielder. However, Manchester United intends to disrupt this agreement by proposing a deal that includes both cash and the inclusion of Harry Maguire as a compensatory factor.

West Ham was unsuccessful in signing Maguire last summer, but Moyes is now planning to revive his interest in the central defender.

Manchester United is likely aiming to exploit this interest to their benefit, however they will still need to shell out approximately £60 million for Lucas Paqueta, given that Harry Maguire is valued at a mere £15 million.

Lucas Paqueta is a multifaceted midfielder capable of performing in various situations. Given the uncertain futures of De Bruyne and Silva, it is understandable why Pep is interested in the player from West Ham.

Nevertheless, Manchester United already own Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount, both of whom occupy comparable positions, rendering it unnecessary for them to pursue the acquisition of the Brazilian international.

With a total of seven goals and six assists in all competitions for West Ham this season, he has demonstrated exceptional performance. Undoubtedly, a player of his caliber deserves to be part of a top-six squad. However, Manchester United should prioritize purchasing a central/defensive midfielder during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Former West Ham United forward Frank McAvennie has acknowledged that the club will sell Lucas Paqueta in the summer if a lucrative offer is made, regardless of whether or not the player desires to leave.

“If a larger club, such as Manchester City, Real Madrid, or Juventus, presents an offer, they will secure his services,” he said Football Insider.

“He will be swayed by the opportunity and is unlikely to reject a substantial offer from a prestigious club.” However, as I observe him, I can see that he is thoroughly enjoying himself. I believe Paqueta would not be inclined to make a hasty decision to relocate.

“However, in the event that a favorable proposition is presented, Mr. Sullivan will inform him that he is no longer involved!”

Lucas Paqueta has not shown any dissatisfaction at West Ham. However, if he were to leave, the midfielder would prefer joining Manchester City over Manchester United. He aims to become the long-term successor to Kevin De Bruyne at City, rather than joining a faltering United club.
