Man United told the £100m striker signing that would turn them into Title contender
If Manchester United were to sign Ivan Toney, a striker for Brentford and England, they would instantly become title challengers in the Premier League, according to Darragh MacAnthony.
The last time United triumphed in the English crown was more than a decade ago, and they are presently lying in sixth place in the Premier League, eleven points off the playoff spots and twenty points lag behind league leaders Arsenal.
However, MacAnthony, chairman of Peterborough United, thinks that United are on the verge of challenging Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal for domestic honors again with the arrival of just one big acquisition.
After acquiring Toney from Newcastle United in 2018, Posh chairman Paul MacAnthony traded the England striker to Brentford the next year (2020).
With 72 goals in 135 appearances, Toney has been an incredible acquisition for the Bees. His form has won him two caps for England and could earn him a spot in the Three Lions squad for the Euros this summer.
The 28-year-old would have an even longer list of goals and caps for England if the FA hadn’t banned him for eight months for violating betting regulations.
There has been renewed speculation that Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in signing Toney this summer, despite the fact that he has been out for an extended period of time.
According to MacAnthony, his previous chairman, Toney would transform United from a struggling team into a title contender if given the chance to play for one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
“He scores 30 Premier League goals in a season whether he’s on Arsenal, Liverpool, or Manchester United,” MacAnthony told Sky Sports. Anyone who thinks otherwise clearly hasn’t been paying attention over the past 2.5 years.
In my opinion, there are five clubs in the world that might potentially get him, and he would be an enormous asset to any of them. Under his leadership, Manchester United become serious contenders in the Premier League.
After 18 years of evaluating players based on more than just their technical abilities, I still don’t think he’s reached his peak performance, despite the fact that he’s turning 28 years old.
His prime is only around the corner, so whomever pays £100 million for him will be getting their money’s worth. You may expect his finest work for at least five or six years.
‘He’s scored a goal every other game in the Premier League for Brentford. Put Ivan in an Aston Villa team under Emery and see how many goals he scores in the Premier League. I’d be surprised if he wasn’t competing for the Golden Boot.
