Spanish publication Fichajes reports that Manchester United has entered the competition with Chelsea and Manchester City to secure the signing of Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Scalvini is a highly talented young center-back in Serie A who may seek a more demanding opportunity at the conclusion of the current season.

Chelsea and Manchester City have shown their admiration for him, but according to Fichajes, the competition has become more intriguing as Manchester United has now joined the contest.

The asking price is not specified, but it is suggested that one of the Premier League clubs listed earlier may try to acquire his signing in the upcoming transfer window.

Despite being just 20 years old, Scalvini has already proven himself to be a pivotal figure for both his club and national team.

The Italian player has displayed exceptional defensive skills this season, averaging 1.8 successful tackles and 5.2 won duels per game in the league. In addition, he has averaged over 6 recoveries per match along with 2 clearances. His dispersion is also rather commendable, with an accuracy rate of 81%.

It is hardly surprising that United is seeking to acquire his signature. The Red Devils are presently making arrangements for the departure of Raphael Varane.

His existing contract will finish in June, and the management has decided not to exercise the extension clause to retain him for an additional year. They are perhaps anticipating future developments by acquiring a promising young center-back.

Scalvini possesses the qualities of a right central defender and would be a commendable acquisition for United in the long run. Currently, he lacks the skills to be considered a complete player. However, under the guidance of Erik ten Hag, he has the potential to develop into one.

Fichajes have not specified the valuation for his probable departure, although past reports have indicated that he could be obtainable for a sum of £43 million.

Manchester City and Chelsea have expressed interest in him as well, but Manchester United may have an advantage due to their prior signings of Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund from the same Italian club.
