Manuel Ugarte doesn’t get his dream Manchester United shirt number before the 50-meter race. Move at Old Trafford
Manchester United is going to sign midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain on trade deadline day. Ugarte has already missed out on wearing his dream shirt number.

Manuel Ugarte, another new player signed by Manchester United, wants to wear his dream shirt number, but Matthijs de Ligt will stop him.

Ugarte, who is 23 years old, should finish his £50 million move to Old Trafford before Friday at 11 p.m., when the summer transfer market closes for good.

United’s top choice for a new defensive midfielder all summer has been the star player from Paris Saint-Germain. He might be able to play his first game against Liverpool on Sunday.

Ugarte won’t wear the No. 4 shirt like he did in Paris, though, because De Ligt took that after joining for £42 million from Bayern Munich earlier this month.

The Uruguayan player will have to choose a number further down the list. He can’t even wear the No.15 he wore for Sporting Lisbon before, because that number goes to Leny Yoro, who is also a new player for United.

Up until 2023, Ugarte played for Sporting for two years and became known as one of Europe’s best defensive midfielders.

His 23rd birthday saw him move from Famalicao, a team in the top flight of Portugal, to the Lisbon giants.

The leader at United, Bruno Fernandes, wears the No. 8 shirt, which Ugarte chose to wear during his two years there. Going back to the beginning, he wore the numbers 20 and 26 for his first four professional seasons with the Uruguayan team Fenix. The number 26 is available at Old Trafford.

When he plays for his country, Ugarte now wears No. 5, which belongs to Harry Maguire at United. His old shirt numbers were 20, 6, 25, 15, and 17.
