It may have ended in sadness, just like the previous season, but it’s difficult to dispute that Arsenal had a fantastic season last year.

Mikel Arteta’s med drove Manchester City all the way to the season’s finish, and if it hadn’t been for one slip against Aston Villa in 2024, the club would have ended its two-decade Premier League title drought.

However, while the fans will be nursing their wounds, the team appears to be set to go for a third season in a row this year, and with the proper signings this summer, they may finally win the title.

Fortunately, recent reports have linked the club with one of Europe’s most dangerous strikers, however this may cause problems for Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal Transfer News
According to a recent report from Football Transfers, Arsenal has firmly renewed their interest in Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres.

According to the source, the Swedish international is now ‘tops the Gunners’ shortlist of striker alternatives’, and the North Londoners are willing to make an offer of roughly €60 million, which equates to around £52 million.

The problem for Edu and Co. is that, while the report states that the Portuguese giants are no longer requesting clubs to fulfil the player’s €100 million release clause (£84 million), they do want around €70 million (£60 million) for the marksman, which means the Gunners will need to boost their possible offer.

Overall, it would be an expensive deal to complete, and there are sure to be many more conversations to be had, but if Arsenal has the opportunity to sign Gyokeres, they should grab it, even if it means difficulty for Jesus.

How Gyokeres compares with Jesus
So, if Arsenal can sign the incredible Gyokeres this summer, they will have Kai Havertz, Jesus, and the Swede as their primary options at number nine, and based on the end of last season, it appears that the Brazilian may be out of contention entirely, but how does he compare to his new potential competition?

Well, when it comes to the most essential metric for a striker, output, there is no competition at all.

For example, in 50 games for Sporting last season, the Swedish “powerhouse,” as statistical analyst Ben Mattinson put it, scored 43 goals and assisted 15 times. This means the former Coventry City ace averaged an unbelievable 1.16 goal involvements per game for the Portuguese team.
