Jordan Pickford was once again under the limelight for England, as the Three Lions were defeated 2-1 by Greece at Wembley Stadium in the Nations League on Thursday night.

During England’s 2-1 defeat to Greece at Wembley Stadium, Roy Keane was unreservedly critical of Jordan Pickford.

A late Jude Bellingham goal appeared to save the Three Lions’ Nations League tie, but Vangelis Pavlidis sealed a remarkable victory with his second goal of the night.

England were jittery from the start, with two offsides saving their blushes before the interval, while Levi Colwill’s amazing goalline clearance and an offside flag against Konstantinos Mavropanos gave respite for Pickford during an opening spell in which the Everton stopper was at his most unpredictable. He harshly criticized the incident in which Pickford lost possession far from his line: “It sends a message about concentration levels, and that spreads throughout the team.” Again, there is a lack of urgency.

He shouted, “What is he doing?!” Do it swiftly. Brilliant defending, extremely unlucky for Greece, but a beautiful message to defenders: never give up. He chased it and did brilliantly. But it was not a nice message for Pickford to give.”

Ian Wright, another ITV analyst, also commented on Pickford’s shaky performance, stating, “Here again, he looks all over the place.” He becomes stuck in a no-man’s land. It’s really twitchy, Pickford,” he said.

Former Manchester United captain Michael Keane added: “That will always be with Pickford. He isn’t going to change now.Keane’s history of criticizing Pickford is well known, with the Irish pundit earlier chastising the goalie following Everton’s 3-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City last May. His critical comments on Sky Sports included the following: “Pickford for the goal… my goodness.” He seems so little in there. He doesn’t expect spring to arrive. Micah (Richards) remarked before the game that he is a good goalkeeper. “He is not.”

And, after a 1-1 draw between Manchester United and Everton at Goodison Park in March 2020, Keane was displeased with Pickford’s handling of a Bruno Fernandes shot. “When I hear that, when people say the ball is moving, of course the ball is going to move when someone kicks it.”Keane maintained his scathing evaluation, saying, “The bottom line with Pickford, I’m not kidding. I don’t need to check your statistics since I know Pickford isn’t a decent goalie. We mentioned it before the game: he’s not up to it. We talked before the game about Everton’s success as a football club; I don’t care; he’s not a good goalie.”
