15 Worst Premier League Players in 2024/25

Published

on

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is reaching new heights, Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood is in top form, and Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak is making the art of goal-scoring appear simple: it’s fair to say that the 2024/25 Premier League season has been hectic.

Despite the toughness of England’s top flight, there are a few players who are struggling to reach their full potential – and, as you might expect, many of those players come from relegation-threatened clubs such as Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

As we approach the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season, let’s take a look at the worst-performing assets in the English top flight, as measured by their total FotMob rating, since the campaign began in August. From Rasmus Hojlund to Kalvin Phillips, here are the 15 worst performers so far.

15-11

Starting with the 15th worst-performing player in the Premier League this season, West Ham keeper Alphonse Areola was hailed as one of the most exciting while at Paris Saint-Germain – but his luck in east London has not been all that great.

Wout Faes has always been seen as one of Leicester’s weak links, and the data, which show a FotMob rating of 6.34 since the start of the 2024/25 season, demonstrate that the Belgian’s presence is undermining the Foxes’ safety hopes.

Radu Dragusin has also been recognised as the Europa League’s worst-performing player since early February. His bad form has extended into domestic football, where the Tottenham Hotspur player has a rating of 6.33.

He is joined by Joshua Zirkzee of Manchester United, who, while scoring on his debut, has struggled to give the Red Devils with a consistent threat in front of goal. Jack Taylor, Ipswich Town’s engine room operator, has also received a rating of 6.32.

10Caleb Okoli, Leicester City

FotMob rating: 6.31

To keep afloat in England’s top league, Leicester City signed Atalanta centre-back Caleb Okoli. Uncapped at senior international level, the Italian has boosted the Foxes’ defensive line, and his early-season showing has sparked interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

This is despite having the tenth poorest rating of any Premier League player this season. Okoli, 23, has played almost 1,000 minutes in 16 games since his summer move, but that hasn’t helped his rating of 6.31, which places the promising youth among the top ten poorest performers.

9. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Hee-chan Hwang has a FotMob rating of 6.30.

Following Raul Jimenez’s move to Fulham in the summer of 2023, Hee-chan Hwang took over the goalscoring duties at Wolverhampton Wanderers last season, scoring 12 goals in 29 Premier League games. Matheus Cunha is now the Old Gold’s go-to player in the last third, while Hwang is no longer as effective.

Hwang, a 69-cap South Korean international, has scored just twice in 17 appearances this season, totalling 612 minutes on the pitch, as his importance to the team’s attacking approach has all but vanished. At the age of 29, the dynamic forward has every chance to revitalise his Molineux career.

Adam Armstrong, Southampton (FotMob rating: 6.30)

Adam Armstrong’s loan to West Bromwich Albion for the duration of the 2024/25 season best demonstrates his struggles as Southampton’s Premier League line-leader. They play in the Championship, which has shown to be the best division for strikers.

While on the south coast, the Englishman notched two goals and the same number of assists in 20 appearances, and the level of centre-backs proved too much for him – as evidenced by his overall rating of 6.30, which he will no longer be able to improve due to his temporary move away, which was completed in January.

7Oliver Skipp, Leicester City

FotMob rating: 6.25

Oliver Skipp has demonstrated over the years that he would be a good option for a Premier League team struggling to stay up – and one of those teams is Leicester City, who recruited the central defensive midfielder in the summer of 2024 in an attempt to avoid relegation.

The 24-year-old’s influence, however, has not been as beneficial as envisaged, and he has battled to establish himself in the starting lineup under both Steve Cooper and Ruud van Nistelrooy. He’s played 772 minutes since his debut and has failed to score, as demonstrated by his 6.25 rating.

6. Rasmus Hojlund of Manchester United has a FotMob rating of 6.25.

Rasmus Hojlund’s unsuccessful spell at Manchester United is a curious instance. Despite his obvious talent, the young Dane, who arrived in the summer of 2023 for a fee of £72 million, has struggled under Erik ten Hag and has faced similar challenges during Ruben Amorim’s current leadership.

According to FotMob, the 22-year-old, who is widely recognised as one of the best young players in the world, has a rating of 6.25 in 21 games in the English top flight, scoring only two goals since the start of the season. There is a chance that Hojlund will begin to improve under the aforementioned Amorim, though.

5. Kalvin Phillips, Ipswich Town FotMob rating: 6.22

Kalvin Phillips, who failed to impress at West Ham last season, joined Ipswich Town on loan in the summer, tasked with keeping the club afloat under Kieran McKenna. The Tractor Boys hoped to rely on his talent, which has earned him 31 caps for England since 2020.

Phillips, a two-time Premier League winner with Manchester City, has struggled to reach his full potential since his time at Leeds United, when he was considered Elland Road royalty. Since the beginning of the season, he has seldom played the full 90 minutes under McKenna and has yet to establish himself as a regular in Suffolk.

Cameron Archer, Southampton (FotMob rating: 6.21)

When Championship teams are promoted to the first division, a productive centre forward can often keep them from relegation. Cameron Archer was Southampton’s talisman of choice in the summer of 2024, but it’s safe to say that their bold gamble hasn’t paid off.

That is clearly exemplified by his poor form in the final third: two goals in 23 matches since his transfer. According to GIVEMESPORT journalist Ben Jacobs, Walsall-born Archer may have the opportunity to resurrect his career from the depths, but whether he does so remains to be seen.

3. Enes Unal, Bournemouth FotMob Rating: 6.17

When Enes Unal was fit and ready to play for Andoni Iraola’s high-flying Bournemouth, he showed his potential. The Turkey international’s skill is undeniable, as proven by his magnificent free-kick against West Ham United in December. However, as the saying goes, availability is the best ability.

Since permanently relocating to the south coast of England following a six-month loan stint last season, the former Manchester City prospect has played only 17 games, typically off the bench, and scored three goals. When he returns to full fitness, he will undoubtedly play a role in their unfathomable pursuit of European football.

2. Vladimir Coufal, West Ham United FotMob rating: 6.15.

With the signing of former Manchester United enforcer Aaron Wan-Bissaka, West Ham United’s Vladimir Coufal was always going to struggle to get minutes this season. In fact, Julen Lopetegui has left the seasoned right-back, 32, on the bench several times, and he is currently managed by Graham Potter.

Coufal had a rating of only 6.15 in 733 minutes of Premier League activity this season, after playing a key role in their Europa Conference League-winning campaign in 2022/23. It remains to be seen whether the veteran will have a future under the aforementioned Potter in east London, especially given their interest in signing Kyle Walker-Peters on a free transfer.

1Archie Gray, Tottenham Hotspur

FotMob rating: 6.15

Archie Grey, one of England’s hottest prospects prior to his departure to Tottenham Hotspur, was one of Leeds United’s most significant players, and his flexibility shined through as he played both central midfield and right-back. The north Londoners signed him, but he has been forced to play as a centre-back.

Injuries to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have left Ange Postecoglou shortchanged in that area, and he has relied on Gray’s youth for the bulk of the season. Still only 18 years old, the Durham-born wonder has been labelled ‘the future of Spurs’ – however, despite his overall rating of 6.15, he may pique the curiosity of some of Europe’s top clubs.
