Man Utd slammed for ‘ridiculous’ game management as Ten Hag’s side ‘fall apart’ in Porto draw

Manchester United have been chastised for “falling apart” after Erik ten Hag’s team threw away a two-goal lead in a 3-3 Europa League tie with FC Porto.
Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund’s goals inside the first 20 minutes appeared to have Manchester United in control, only for the game to be turned on its head by a Pepe strike and a brace from Samu Omorodion in the space of 23 minutes.
Captain Bruno was sent off nine minutes from time for his second red card in as many games as the Red Devils slid into disaster, only for replacement Harry Maguire to score in second-half stoppage time to give the visitors their second point of the campaign.
Despite saving the game, former England internationals Owen Hargreaves and Karen Carney chastised Ten Hag’s club, who drew 1-1 with FC Twente in the Europa League last week, for letting the three points escape.
The former United midfielder told TNT Sports: “There was a lot going on. There were so many vulnerabilities in the defense. Manchester United failed not stop any crosses, and being 3-2 down after leading 2-0 was ludicrous. The middle section of the game was insane. That’s how things have been for the past few years.
Carney subsequently stated, “Manchester United fell apart.” At 2-2, we were quite concerned about Manchester United. Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt, and Casemiro all performed poorly tonight.”
Ten Hag’s side settles for horrible nights rather than nightmares.
Currently, the Dutchman is under increasing pressure. His side’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham in the Premier League last weekend was a low moment for United, who fell to 13th place in the rankings.
Even though the Red Devils fought valiantly to salvage a draw in Porto, they lost control of a game they should have won early on.
Furthermore, since Ten Hag joined the club in 2022, no Premier League team has surrendered three or more goals in a match more than United (24).
Aside from that, 247sportstrock reports that Ten Hag is on borrowed time at United, with many club officials doubting he will be in charge for the 2025/26 season, despite the fact that his contract extends until 2026.
And the fact that United has won only one of their previous ten European tournament games, with five losses and four draws, will not assist Ten Hag’s standing with the club’s management in the future.
Manchester United have ‘number one’ target if Ten Hag exits.
According to 247sportstrock, Thomas Tuchel and Massimiliano Allegri are at the top of their management wishlist if Ten Hag is fired.
However, Tuchel, the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager, is their top priority moving ahead.
Despite this, 247sportstrock knows that minority owners INEOS, who oversee football operations at Old Trafford, are also considering English managers such as Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe and former Chelsea manager Graham Potter.
Aside from management rumors, United has been connected to Benfica star Kerem Akturkoglu. The 25-year-old winger has six goals and five assists in 11 games this season, and the Red Devils are taking notice.
Finally, according to our sources, Manchester United intend to trade Christian Eriksen in order to create way for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.
