Chelsea’s 1-1 tie with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League was overshadowed by a 20-player brawl, but star man Cole Palmer didn’t fancy getting caught up in the chaos.

Cole Palmer’s reaction to a heated 20-player brawl between Chelsea and Nottingham Forest had supporters laughing out loud.

Sunday’s Premier League showdown turned sour when a massive brawl broke out late in the second half, potentially costing both sides £25,000 for failing to manage their players. With the game tied 1-1, Forest defender Neco Williams tripped Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, sending him flying into his own manager, Enzo Maresca.

A fight broke out, and both teams rushed to the situation, but Palmer remained on the sidelines. On a yellow card and having just seen Forest’s James Ward-Prowse sent for two bookable offenses, the England international watched from afar before taking a seat on the Stamford Bridge grass.

Palmer was clearly more concerned about conserving his energy for the game’s last period, which lasted an additional 15 minutes. Despite Chelsea sending 22 attempts at Forest’s goal, the visitors held on for a draw, owing largely to the brilliant performance of goalkeeper Matz Sels, after grabbing the lead through striker Chris Wood.

Palmer, 22, helped teammate Noni Madueke equalize, but it was his reaction to the chaotic brawl that drew the most attention after the match. “You just can’t hate this guy,” an admirer remarked on X.

“He was like, ‘I’m too world-class for this,'” another said. A third person responded: “Saving his energy for the stuff that actually matters.” One fan then said, “He was already on yellow card; what do you want him to do?”

Although Chelsea presently sit fourth in the rankings, their discipline has been called into question in recent weeks, with two players – Cucurella and Wesley Fofana – having already received five yellow cards in their first seven Premier League matches. That means the defensive duo will miss the Blues’ next game, a trip to Liverpool. When asked after the draw if he was concerned about his players’ discipline, Maresca did not look concerned. “These things can happen,” Chelsea’s manager responded. “In terms of emotion, the squad is battling together, and I don’t believe any of them have lost their minds. They were all in the game. I was pleased with it.

“I am not going to pay it,” Maresca joked about the fine. “It is something we need to work on, but generally, I enjoy how the squad is battling. I admire how they are becoming a team in these situations. I don’t see any problem with that.”

Regarding Cucurella and Fofana’s bans, the Italian added: “Fortunately, we have the international break to see how we can arrange. The good news is that all of the other guys are ready to come in.
