Jurgen Klopp signs contract with next job sealed, but Liverpool icon includes break clause for one specific role

Jurgen Klopp has ‘already signed a long-term deal’ to secure his next football duty, and his start date has been established, but the Liverpool great has left the door open to other opportunities after a break provision for one specific role was added in his agreement.
Klopp ended his dazzling time at Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season, claiming a lack of energy as his major reason for leaving.
Liverpool look to have made a solid choice in Arne Slot as Klopp’s successor. Nonetheless, Liverpool supporters and the wider football world are eager to see what the future holds for one of the game’s current greats.
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Klopp has accepted to become Red Bull’s ‘Global Head of Soccer’. On X, the reporter reported that Klopp has already signed a long-term deal and would begin responsibilities on January 1, 2025.
However, Plettenberg also stated that the deal included a ‘exit option’ that would allow Klopp to quit his position and become Germany’s national team manager.
“Jurgen Klopp will become the new Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull starting on January 1, 2025,” he tweeted. “Klopp already has a long-term deal.
“Additionally, Klopp has negotiated an exit option that would allow him to become the head coach of the German national team in the future, potentially succeeding Julian Nagelsmann.
“Beginning in January, Klopp will advise all Red Bull teams (Leipzig, Salzburg, New York, etc.) on coaching concerns, playing philosophy, talent/head coach development and transfers, and other topics. Oliver Mintzlaff (Red Bull’s CEO for Corporate Projects and New Investments) was desperate to obtain Klopp.”
Red Bull confirmed Klopp’s appointment on social media.
German national team role is currently expected.
Julian Nagelsmann is Germany’s current manager and is under contract until the end of the 2026 World Cup.
Germany has struggled in international competition recently, failing to advance past the group stage in the last two World Cups. Their performance in the European Championships has been less than stellar, with a Round of 16 exit in 2020 and a quarter-final exit on home soil in 2024.
Taking over as manager of the German national team has long been considered Klopp’s most likely next move in management.
Indeed, when Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool in January, BILD’s Christian Falk quickly focused on the international stage.
Falk commented on X: “Germany feels heartbroken for Liverpool because of Jurgen Klopp’s probable resignation.
“Now we hope that after his sabbatical Jurgen will take over the job of our national coach for the 2026 World Cup.”
Of course, if Klopp is to be in control of that tournament, Nagelsmann must be replaced.
Alexander-Arnold the latest, Palmer to wilt in Anfield atmosphere?
In other news, The Sun has made strong accusations that Trent Alexander-Arnold is on his way to Real Madrid.
Their story stated that the Reds ace is ‘on the brink’ of clinching a deal to The Bernabeu, but TEAMtalk views the situation differently.
Elsewhere, MLS club San Diego FC is ready to put their name in the pot for Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian is in the final year of his contract and will be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with abroad clubs on January 1.
Finally, Gary Neville believes Liverpool will try to neutralize Cole Palmer in their upcoming Premier League match against Chelsea by roughing him up.
Neville also mentioned that the Anfield atmosphere may throw Palmer off his stride.
Jurgen Klopp’s next stop? Germany.
