Teammate Nuno Mendes is not pleased with Cristiano Ronaldo’s criticism of Portugal players who have withdrawn from their Nations League games. The Portuguese national team is getting ready for important matches against Poland and Croatia in the UEFA competition. They are currently leading their group by a narrow margin of three points.
Ronaldo’s remarks at an awards ceremony earlier this week, however, in which he expressed his disappointment at players who refused to represent their country, have generated controversy. Mendes, a defender for PSG who will play against Poland on Friday at Estadio do Dragao, responded to his captain’s comments with clear annoyance.
“After winning so many trophies and playing for so many clubs, there’s nothing better than playing for the national team, representing your country, your culture, your children,” Ronaldo said, criticising his teammates at the Quinas de Ouro Gala, where he accepted the Quinas de Platina honour. I’m disappointed by those players that choose not to represent it because of this.

Teammate Mendes responded, “Everyone has their own opinion,” when questioned about these remarks before to the Poland game. I am able to talk for myself. I believe it shows how proud I am to represent Portugal; I give it my all both on the pitch and in practice. Ronaldo has a viewpoint. my is my.
Harry Kane, the captain of England, expressed similar views on player commitment earlier this week amid a slew of withdrawals from the Three Lions’ Nations League team as Ronaldo did.
Nine players have pulled out of games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland, including Aaron Ramsdale, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Levi Colwill, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, and most recently, Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton.

According to Kane, the captain, “I think England comes before anything,” “The most essential thing for a professional football player is England, not the club. Gareth [Southgate] was adamant about that and wasn’t hesitant to make choices if some players began to lose interest.
“Obviously, this week is a shame. It’s a difficult time of year, and perhaps that has been exploited a little. To be completely honest, I don’t much enjoy it. Whatever the club situation, England comes first.
Mendes’ scathing response to his captain Ronaldo exemplifies the division that might be sparked inside the England team and is a possible early problem for Thomas Tuchel to resolve as he prepares to become interim manager Lee Carsley.
“With the number of players who have pulled out, it gives other players the opportunity to be here,” Carsley told reporters, highlighting the bright side. We’re excited about the match [against Greece].
