Ipswich vs. Manchester United: Amorim’s first lineup
Amorim has a few major decisions to make in his first game at Manchester United, and he may be ready to experiment.

The first of his decisions is in defence, as he has many ailments to cope with.

He is known to play in a 3-4-3 configuration, and there are no signs of him changing that, as he demonstrated the system in his first training session on Monday.

But he needs three centre-backs, and with Harry Maguire ill, Victor Lindelof doubtful, and Lisandro Martinez out, his options are restricted.

Lindelof hobbled off for Sweden over the weekend, and Argentina sent Martinez home with a back problem.

Matthijs de Ligt will start, and Jonny Evans is expected to come in as well, while Leny Yoro might finally make his debut in the third position.

Yoro is yet to debut for United after suffering a catastrophic foot injury in preseason, but the £52 million youngster has returned to training and might be ready to play.

Luke Shaw, who exercised with Amorim in his first training session at the club, might potentially be a possibility in a back three if he is healthy.

Andre Onana will, of course, be in goal behind the defenders, while Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui prepare to go up the pitch to play wing-back.

However, Antony, an unexpected choice, might be poised to play there, with Amorim training with him at right wing-back on Monday.

It remains to be seen if he has trained in that position subsequently, but it is possible that the Brazilian will be hesitant to make the change.

He had a really frustrated reaction last season when Ten Hag instructed him to play left-back against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Kobbie Mainoo returned to training this week, but he hasn’t played a minute since October 6 due to injury, thus Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro are set to start in midfield.

Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen, on the other hand, will want to impress Amorim early on in order to finally get into his best line-up.

And Manchester United fans believe Mount’s career will be enhanced under the new manager after seeing him complimented in training footage aired earlier this week.

The former Chelsea player appeared to be practicing in an advanced position behind the striker, which is also where Bruno Fernandes will fit into this system.
