‘I’m an Arsenal Invincible – Man City deserve to win the title and I want them to do it’
Gael Clichy, a former defender for Manchester City and Arsenal, has raised his flag as the Premier League title race heats up.
An Arsenal Invincible has acknowledged that, when it comes to the Premier League title race, he is supporting Manchester City.
Gael Clichy, 38, has experience in both areas as he played for the Gunners for eight years before moving on to the City, where he stayed for six years until departing the country in 2017. The Frenchman, who is currently a trainee coach, will be pleased with whichever team wins the championship on Sunday.
If he had to pick, he would prefer City to defeat Mikel Arteta’s team and win a fourth straight championship. In an exclusive interview with Ladbrokes Fanzone, Clichy said, “What’s impressed me most about Manchester City right now is that they’re still destroying teams when they’re not playing well.” They dominate almost every game they play in a ninety-minute period.
They didn’t play well against Arsenal a few weeks ago, and many said that presented a great opportunity for Arsenal to defeat them because City wasn’t playing at their best.
But they controlled the game even when they weren’t performing at their best. I’m saying that even though they didn’t win the game, they are unquestionably the best team for the entire season.
They are the best team because, in any game where they gave up a lot of points, if you were to watch it ten more times, they would probably win eight, lose one, and draw one. Right now, you cannot say that about any other team in the division.
“The luxury I have is that I played for both clubs, and I really am a fan of both,” Clichy continued. As a young coach, you have ideas and a philosophy in your head when you’re merely completing your coaching badges. It so happens that the two clubs I spent so much time with are now the ones that truly inspire me.
“Manchester City and Arsenal are the reasons behind everything on my mind. I could argue for both teams if you were to ask me who I thought should win the championship.
“After winning the Treble last year, City deserves it, and I want them to do it because they’d be the first team to do it four times in a row. However, I would really like to see Arsenal succeed because they are a major team and should be competing for championships.
They’d make stunning champions; they’ve been moving in the right direction for the past few years. Really, I would be happy for either of them. I still think City has a good chance, but my goodness, Arsenal is playing brilliantly.
