The first proposals to purchase Sheffield Wednesday could emerge before the end of this week, with interest from the likes of Mike Ashley.

According to the iNews, at least ten genuine bidders are interested in purchasing the Championship club after it entered into administration last month.

Dejphon Chansiri, the current owner, overseen the Yorkshire outfit’s financial mismanagement in recent years, prompting Begbies Traynor to be appointed administrators.

Begbies Traynor will now seek a settlement that best suits the club’s creditors as they aim to pay off obligations such as a rumored £1 million tax bill owed to HMRC.

Sheffield Wednesday have suffered on the pitch as a result of these off-field troubles, with a 12 point deduction penalty imposed automatically after entering administration.

Sheffield Wednesday takeover latest

Sheffield Wednesday are apparently attracting interest from a number of parties after entering administration.

It is unclear whether Ashley is the front-runner due to the large number of potential buyers with the financial resources to take over the Championship side.

Administrator Kris Wigfield has stated that there have been up to 30 or 40 inquiries about a potential takeover, with offers expected within the next several days.

He believes that their appeal among fans stems from their toxic connection with Chansiri, and that they understand that this cannot continue.

“It’s strange to come into a business as administrators and be popular but it probably helps us the relationship that fans had with the former owner,” said Wigfield, according to iNews.

“At the moment, we’re popular, but if we don’t find a buyer quickly, football fans may be fickle, so we’re extremely aware that we need to sell it as soon as possible to a decent buyer.

“We’re overjoyed with the response we’ve received thus far.

“We are delighted with the list of contestants that we have.

“Time will tell in the next week or so if that interest turns into offers, but I’m confident it will.

“We have probably received at least 30 or 40 inquiries that we believe are serious.

“We will have at least double figures that will have proof of funding or we don’t have to ask for proof of funding because it’s just obvious from who they are that they’ve got that money.”

Ashley is reportedly planning an offer of up to £10 million for the Owls, with the former Newcastle United owner looking for a quick agreement to buy the club.

Begbies Traynor is reportedly looking for proof of access to £50 million in funds in order to be evaluated as a potential buyer.

Sheffield Wednesday are now bottom of the Championship standings, with Henrik Pedersen’s team 17 points from safety.

Light at the end of the tunnel for Sheffield Wednesday.

Begbies Traynor must conduct due diligence in this circumstance, therefore it will take some time before they can reach an agreement on a transaction with someone.

However, the level of interest in the Championship side is very high, and fans should be heartened that a new dawn is breaking at Hillsborough.

It is uncertain who will take over the Owls, but any possible owner should be a step above than Chansiri, who was jeopardizing the club’s future with his financial mismanagement.

A buyout may not be fully confirmed until 2026, but the wait should be well worth it if it means restoring stability to Sheffield Wednesday.
