The impending appointment of Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp’s successor may allow one former Liverpool player to take over as Feyenoord manager.

At the end of the previous month, the Reds and the Eredivisie club came to an agreement on a £9.4 million compensation deal, which will allow Slot to take over at Anfield. But after more than two weeks, the Dutchman has still not received an official confirmation to take over as Liverpool’s manager.

The 45-year-old has repeatedly downplayed the “delay,” saying he is not concerned and that his move will be completed as soon as possible.

With the confirmation that his assistant manager, Sipke Hulshoff, has resigned from his position as assistant manager of the Netherlands national team, Slot appears to have taken a step closer to being announced. He’s going to Anfield to join his compatriot.

On Sunday, the campaigns of Feyenoord and Liverpool come to an end as Klopp and Slot get ready to oversee their farewell games as current clubs. However, the Eredivisie team has not yet moved to find a replacement for the Dutchman, while the Reds have chosen their player to replace the German.

But according to reports from Turkey and the Netherlands, as reported by 1908.nl, they may choose to replace Slot with a former Liverpool player.

Nuri Sahin, who previously played on loan for the Dutch team during the 2007–08 season, is reportedly emerging as a potential replacement for Slot at De Kuip. Feyenoord hasn’t formally approached the former Turkey international yet, though.

After spending the first half of the 2012–13 season on loan at Liverpool, the 35-year-old began his managerial career in October 2021 with Antalyaspor in Turkey. But two years later, he moved on to Borussia Dortmund as assistant manager.

Feyenoord will have to wait to make an official approach if they decide to go with Sahin because the Bundesliga team will be playing Real Madrid in the Champions League final on June 1. Though he is also being considered by Besiktas, reports indicate that the Turk is aware of their interest and believes joining the Dutch team would be more appealing.

Sahin has already stated that he plans to return to management soon. Sahin most notably enjoyed two separate stints at Borussia Dortmund as a player, where he worked under Klopp.

He said to Sky Sports last month, “One day I will be back and it will not be in four or five years.” “I have high goals for myself. I wish to be a team leader.

“I will be extremely happy if my coaching career proceeds in the same manner as my playing career.”
