In the second leg of their round of 16 match on Thursday, Ittihad faced Uzbekistan’s Navbahor, and Karim Benzema was chosen to start up front. In the second game, Benzema gave Navbahor the lead by inadvertently heading a header past his own goalkeeper during a set-piece. The first game ended in a 0-0 draw. But Ittihad rallied, winning crucially thanks to goals from Abderrazak Hamdallah and an own goal by Toma Tabatadze.

According to reports, Benzema is not happy at Ittihad right now. During the January transfer window, he was linked to a surprise move in the Saudi league to Al-Nassr, the team of Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United was also connected to the former Real Madrid player, but the Red Devils swiftly denied the rumors.
