Even though it took a few days for the deal to be revealed, Tosin Adarabioyo has successfully completed his move to Chelsea on a free transfer. The time was obviously well spent.

Following the announcement, the 26-year-old was prepared for an interview with the club, which he used to draw parallels between himself and former Blues defenders:

“I like to take bits from their game into mine. I look up to [John Terry] for example, his leadership, and Christensen, how well he can play on the ball,” the former Fulham player said. We adore that self-assurance.

“I’ve advanced significantly. I’ve grown into a man and established myself as a premier league center-half,” he continued, displaying a strong sense of self-worth.

That is the reason I joined Chelsea. It comes easy to me to be a leader. It’s a necessary quality for a center-half. It’s a significant obligation. I want to come over here and give the youngsters every opportunity to succeed.

Andreas Christensen taking on Wolves.

If he can live up to his own billing, this signing would be ideal.
In addition to thrilling us with these parallels, this is a smart PR manoeuvre that demonstrates his familiarity with Chelsea’s history and current state of affairs. It fits in well with the statement made in the article regarding his transfer regarding his birthplace of “three miles away from Stamford Bridge.”

This is being portrayed as a kind of a homecoming, and it’s obvious that efforts are being made to give Adarabioyo a sense of belonging that goes beyond that of a typical signing, or at least a sense of being home grown.

Can he match those well-known names? We sincerely hope so. We could sign a JT-Anders Christensen hybrid for a reasonable amount of money if he was available.
