During his time with Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne has won six Premier League titles, but he has hinted that he may not stay at the Etihad Stadium in the future.

By acknowledging he’s tempted by a move to Saudi Arabia, Kevin De Bruyne has given the strongest indication yet that he may decide to leave Manchester City.

Even after making a high-profile transfer from Wolfsburg, the Belgian playmaker is still an important member of the Etihad Stadium squad nine years later. This season, he assisted City in winning the Premier League once more.

He has acknowledged that, with only a year remaining on his deal, he would have to consider moving to Saudi Arabia. “At my age you have to be open to everything,” De Bruyne stated in an interview with the Belgian publication HLN. You’re discussing enormous sums of money at a time when my career might be coming to an end.

There are moments when you need to consider that. I can make a huge amount of money if I play there [in Saudi Arabia] for two years. I had to play football for fifteen years prior to that.

I might not even get close to that sum yet. You then need to consider what that might imply going forward. However, I haven’t had to consider that as of yet.

De Bruyne has just finished an incredible season. In spite of missing a significant portion of the season due to injury, the 32-year-old managed to contribute six goals and eighteen assists across all competitions.

The midfielder’s group is eager for him to go on to the next phase of his career. His advisors have discussed transfers with ten Saudi clubs; San Diego FC of the Major League Soccer (MLS) is also interested in acquiring him.

Furthermore, De Bruyne has stated that he is already thinking about what would be best for his family and himself. “For Michele, an exotic adventure is okay,” he continued. We are also talking about these topics more and more as a family.

“I need to consider my options because I have one year remaining on my contract. At eight years old, my eldest child (Mason Milian, ed.) has never left England. How long will I play for City, he also asks? When that time comes, we’ll need to handle it a certain way.

De Bruyne would join a select group of former teammates who are currently playing in the Middle East if he decides to move to Saudi Arabia. Last summer, Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez relocated to Al-Ahli and Al-Nassr, respectively.
