Breaking News: Liverpool confirm released list with 10 players leaving including popular pair
Arne Slot, a Dutchman, will take over as Liverpool’s manager for the 2024–2025 season. The Reds have announced that significant changes have already been made to the player roster.
Ten players have departed Liverpool, including cult favorites Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara, the club has confirmed.
Last month, it was confirmed that the two were leaving; their contracts were about to end. After the match against Wolves on the final day of the season, which also happened to be Jurgen Klopp’s last game in command, Matip and Thiago had the chance to say their final goodbyes to the team.
There are still more exits. The departure of several academy starlets has been announced by the Reds. Melkamu Frauendorf and Adam Lewis, who were given first-team opportunities under Klopp, are both departing.
Mateusz Musialowski, who played earlier in the season against Sparta Prague, will also be saying goodbye. Additionally departing Anfield are Nathan Giblin, Cody Pennington, Niall Osborne, Luke Hewitson, and Francis Gyimah.
A statement from the club read: “Everyone at Liverpool FC thanks Joel, Thiago, Adam, Melkamu, Mateusz, Nathan, Francis, Luke, Niall and Cody for all their contributions and wishes them each the very best for the future.”
The Reds are in the midst of signing stars to new contracts, even though there are a lot of exits. Adrian, the Spanish stopper, has received a new contract offer from the team.
Jacob Poytress and Reece Trueman, two academy goalkeepers, are also in discussions about staying longer at Anfield. The summer transfer window for Liverpool will now open for business.
It looks like we’ll need to find Thiago and Matip replacements. The Cameroon defender said: “It has been eight wonderful years here at Liverpool” after his departure was officially announced.
“I was given the opportunity to be a part of an incredible history in an amazing club, with a fantastic coach and an incredible team. We have the world’s greatest fans and have won numerous accolades.
“I am really appreciative of the amazing time I had with these special individuals that support Liverpool FC and the supporters of the team.
From the beginning, my spouse and I have had a warm welcome and unwavering support, and we had an incredible time here with the kids. It will always hold a particular place in our hearts.
Matip was out for a significant portion of his last Liverpool season. The defender, who played in more than 200 games for the team, sustained a catastrophic knee injury the previous season. Thiago’s contributions were also restricted because of his ongoing health problems.
