When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was manager of Manchester United in 2021, Cristiano Ronaldo made a comeback, but the former manager now acknowledges that the high-profile move was a mistake.

According to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Kieran McKenna told him not to sign Cristiano Ronaldo again with Manchester United.

Additionally, the former United manager acknowledges that he now views the decision to bring the Portugal star back to Old Trafford for a second time as a mistake.

When Ronaldo returned after a 12-year absence, McKenna, who is currently in charge of Ipswich Town, was working as Solskjaer’s assistant.

After analysing six of Ronaldo’s Juventus games, he concluded that the team would be better off bolstering another member, Solskjaer told Norwegian publication NRK.

“How are we going to defend ourselves?” said McKenna, according to Solskjaer.

“It was probably a bad decision for all of us,” he continued. However, at the time, we believed it was the appropriate choice.

After returning to Solskjaer, Ronaldo scored nine goals in 13 games before splitting from interim manager Ralf Rangnick and leaving for Saudi Arabia at the beginning of Erik ten Hag’s tenure.

Additionally, the 51-year-old Solskjaer told NRK that he now views himself as virtually retired and spends his time as a football fan while working as a match analyst for UEFA and finishing up his ideal home in Kristiansund.

The former goal scorer may be persuaded to return for a position abroad, but he is unwilling to travel far from home and would not comment on whether he was close to accepting the Denmark position earlier this year.

“I think that a national team could suit me,” he continued. However, it cannot be on the opposite side of the world. I had two choices, but since there would have been a time difference and the trip would have lasted half a day, I decided not to go. even if I were able to compete in the tournament at that point.”

“I think it sounds more correct,” Solskjaer continued, adding that only men from that nation should coach a national team. Then, without a lot of assistance, you can see how good that nation is.
