The narrative of Victor Osimhen at Napoli was always expected to come to an end on Transfer Deadline Day, and that is exactly what has happened. It’s a bit less likely that Chelsea would remain one of the main participants in this scenario and try to take advantage of the opportunity presented by Paris Saint-Germain leaving after failing to meet Napoli’s asking price.

Osimhen does have a fallback option given the wealth the Saudi Pro League provides, but it appears that we might be in a better position. Naturally, everything will depend on resolving on the specifics of the transfer with Napoli and coming to a financial deal with the 25-year-old striker, who is no longer eligible for our salary scale. Given our recently concluded agreement for Romelu Lukaku, the latter is perhaps the easier part at the moment. The loan may have a (conditional?) obligation to become permanent.

Chelsea is reportedly working very hard to complete this deal within the last 12 to 24 hours of the window. This appears to be the closest approach we’ve got to turning Osimhen-to-Chelsea into a reality since 2019. It has seemed a lot like manifest destiny. Could we?
