HERE WE GO: Jubilation currently ongoing at Carrington as Man United set to announce the signing of £40m world cup semi finalist, jersey number picked, medical schedule to hold today
NOW WE DO: Celebrations are still going on at Carrington as Man United prepares to reveal the acquisition of a £40 million World Cup semifinalist, who has chosen a jersey number and will undergo a medical examination today.
Sofyan Amrabat, a former player for Manchester United, is highly sought after by Fenerbahce, but his club Fiorentina is currently unwilling to loan him back to Old Trafford.
The Moroccan midfielder was on loan at Manchester for the previous campaign, where he had a lacklustre showing.
He participated in 30 games for the Red Devils overall, but he didn’t regularly start for them until the final month of the campaign when Casemiro was forced to return to the centre of defence owing to an injury problem.
He did play the full 90 minutes and contributed tremendous energy and desire to help Manchester United overcome Manchester City in a thrilling FA Cup triumph. Paul Scholes, a pundit, said he played like Gennaro Gattuso for his tremendous effort.
However, United has declined to spend the €20 million option they had to bring Amrabat back permanently because they want to bolster their midfield this summer.
According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Amrabat returned to Fiorentina yesterday, although he has expressed no desire to stay.
The newspaper claims that Fenerbahce, a Turkish team, is interested in signing the player and that they “are (fairly) sure” they would sign Amrabat.
“Fiorentina’s demand for €15 million has, thus far, alienated suitors (Olympiakos and Galatasaray) who were not even that convinced of him.”
“Just over €10 million” has already been promised by Jose Mourinho’s team, and they don’t appear to be too far away from paying the asking price for La viola.
Fiorentina “are aiming to sell the 28-year-old,” so according to United, “they will not invest €15 million to welcome him back, something they would only do with a repeated loan that is “unlikely for numerous reasons.”
The Moroccan has expressed his desire to remain at Old Trafford if given the opportunity, but he is getting thinner and thinner.
In addition to claims that free agent Adrien Rabiot is preferring a transfer to United, the Red Devils and Paris Saint-Germain are presently engaged in negotiations for the signing of defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
Nevertheless, by the end of August, United and the Moroccan might once more be compelled into a marriage of convenience if Amrabat is not signed and possibly if United finds it difficult to finance a more costly midfield addition.
