'It's rubbish' - Roy Keane slams Andy Robertson's post-match interview after Scotland's heavy defeat to Germany

Andy Robertson, the captain of Scotland, came under fire from pundit Roy Keane for his remarks made after their 5-1 loss to Germany during Euro 2024.

Robertson acknowledges players’ lack of aggression
Keane is incensed with his post-match analysis.

Consequently, what happened?

An enormous fan base greeted the Tartan Army in Germany before of Euro 2024, but they were thoroughly humiliated by the host country in Munich. Following five goals and the dismissal of a player, captain Robertson faced the cameras and said that while his squad had a strategy, it was insufficient to overcome a heavyweight and that a number of his teammates were not playing with enough aggression.

“First half, we just got it all wrong really, didn’t show up, weren’t aggressive enough, and we let good players get on the ball,” he remarked in an interview with ITV Sport. Their star players showed up, performed admirably across the park, and had a response for almost every question we had. We haven’t really given it our all, in my opinion. We must pick ourselves up and move on.”

Naturally, Keane was incensed by Robertson’s remarks and contended that they ought to have been aware of what to anticipate and utilised their advantages while facing the Germans. Despite having a large team full of confident players, Scotland never gave the impression that they thought they could harm the host country. They should make up for any quality gaps they may have with other teams with their dedication and work ethic on the pitch.

THOUGH KEANE

Keane said on ITV following the game, “Andy Robertson said they had a ‘game plan’ in his post-game remarks. Having a plan is fine, but at that point, he continued, “We weren’t aggressive enough.” In a football game, aggression is necessary.

“It’s ridiculous to claim, ‘We had a game plan,’ after the game if you start out against them the way Scotland did tonight! It’s all just crap flowing out, Andy Robertson. You were aware of the stakes before the game, so it makes no sense to say to yourself afterward, “We’ll regroup and we’ll be angry tomorrow.” No, you ought to feel furious for a very long period.”

FUTURE PLANS FOR SCOTLAND AND ROBERTSON?
After a few days off, the Tartan Army will pick themselves up and reenter Group A. They play Switzerland on June 19 and then Hungary on June 20. For Steve Clarke and his team, the latter encounter could prove pivotal.
