After leading the Championship club for 12 games, the former Liverpool coach was fired.

Neil Critchley, a former coach at Liverpool Academy, was let go from Queens Park Rangers, two months after the Championship club hired him.

Named in December to take over for fellow former Liverpool employee Michael Beale, who left the lower division for Rangers, Critchley won his first game as manager against Preston but has lost the other eleven games he has managed.

Following Critchley’s one and only victory as head coach, QPR was sitting in the play-off spots; however, their current position, which puts them closer to the relegation zone than the top six, highlights the sharp decline in their performance. Because of how bad this decline was, the 44-year-old was fired. Iain Brunskill and Mike Garrity, his assistants who had also worked for Liverpool in the past, have also left.

Prior to joining Steven Gerrard’s backroom staff at Aston Villa in June of last year, Critchley was the manager of Blackpool. But Gerrard’s time at the West Midlands club was brief—he didn’t stay until October when Villa fired him.

Liverpool was “not happy” with the Premier League after a 33-minute flight, according to Newcastle’s explanation.

Liverpool’s reason for flying back from Newcastle on Saturday is said to be the short turnaround between Premier League and Champions League fixtures.

Just hours after winning their second Premier League match of 2023, the Reds took a 33-minute flight back from the North East. Goals in the first half from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo put an end to Eddie Howe’s team and increased their chances of finishing in the top four.

In an effort to increase awareness of climate issues, the Premier League recently dedicated one of its game weeks to Green Football Weekend. As a result, the club has come under fire for opting to travel the 145 miles back to Merseyside by air.

But as Jurgen Klopp’s team prepares to play Real Madrid at Anfield on Tuesday in a rematch of the 2022 Champions League final, Anfield officials have reportedly given the tight fixture schedule as the reason for their decision, according to the Mirror.

According to the report, Liverpool “does factor in environmental concerns when making travel decisions, with distance and cost the other main considerations.” Klopp’s desire for his players to be at their peak for the tantalizing match against the Spanish champions played a part in the decision-making process.
