Even though Phil Foden scored an incredible long-range goal in his team’s thrilling 3–3 Champions League match against Real Madrid, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said that Foden was “grumpy” with him. The England player’s amazing strike to tie the score at two goals was followed by an injury that forced him to be replaced.

In the last moments of the game, Foden took a knock. A moment earlier, he had picked up the ball on the edge of the box and curled his strike past Andriy Lunin in the Madrid goal.

Guardiola revealed that his star was not thrilled to be substituted for Julian Alvarez, but the 23-year-old was eager to continue playing in Europe. He hobbled out of the Bernabeu and is doubtful for City’s upcoming Premier League game against Luton on Saturday.

Guardiola gave TNT Sports the explanation, “A knock,” before revealing how Foden felt about the last-minute substitution. “He was upset with me for changing him, but he scored a great goal.

We need every member of our team to have the energy necessary to defeat the competition’s kings next week. In Manchester, we’ll go all out with our people.

“We had a great start, but it’s really tough to come here because they play excellent defense and have really impressive forward speed. We lost a lot of balls in the first half because we were a little nervous with the ball, and that makes the other team very tough to play against.”

But Foden has already allayed fears that he would be sidelined for a long time by declaring that he has a dead leg following a strong challenge from Eduardo Camavinga.

Foden answered, “Yeah, I hope so,” when asked if he was alright. I’ve been suffering from a bad dead leg, but I have some time to heal, so maybe.

Key defenders Kyle Walker and Nathan Ake are still out, and Kevin De Bruyne missed the draw with Madrid due to an illness he had before the game.
