Discovered: The Reason Xabi Alonso Was Not Chosen to Manage Liverpool.

After Jurgen Klopp left Liverpool, Xabi Alonso explained why he would not be taking over as manager. Alonso, who won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005 and is now the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, was heavily rumored to be interested in the job. Regardless, he confirmed his choice to remain with Leverkusen at a recent press conference.

Alonso gave Leverkusen a lot of credit for keeping him around. During his 18 months at the helm, the team has gone undefeated in all competitions, is in contention for the German Cup and Europa League, and is within striking distance of winning their first-ever Bundesliga title.

Alonso told TNT Sports, “There were many reasons for deciding to stay at the club,” when asked why he turned down the chance to play for Liverpool. After a year, we’re starting to form a strong bond as a team.

Everything about this season has been fantastic, and we are determined to keep playing together. I sensed a connection.

He went on to say that he is totally devoted to his position at Leverkusen and that he just didn’t feel the moment was appropriate.

He leads an undefeated team into the Europa League quarterfinal first leg against West Ham, where they will look to take a lead into the London leg.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon is now widely considered the frontrunner to succeed Jurgen Klopp as manager of Liverpool.
