Richard Keys ‘calls out’ Jamie Carragher over Mo Salah comments that left Sky Sports studio stunned
Following the controversial comments that Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher made regarding Mohamed Salah and the Africa Cup of Nations, Richard Keys has taken to Twitter to express his disapproval of it.
With a resounding victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, Liverpool moved one step closer to claiming the 2024/25 Premier League title. This victory brought Liverpool one step closer!
Not only did Salah score the first goal for the away team, but he also assisted Dominik Szoboszlai in doubling their lead before halftime. This is something that has happened in almost every match that Liverpool has played this season.
Immediately following the match, pundits questioned whether or not the Egyptian would be deserving of winning this year’s Ballon d’Or. However, Carragher asserted that he would be prevented from winning the award because he would be participating in the Africa Cup of Nations, which caused outrage on the internet.
Salah would always be at a disadvantage to other top players who are hoping to win the Ballon d’Or, according to the former Liverpool defender, because he could never win a major international tournament with Egypt. This is because Salah did not play for Egypt.
Micah Richards and Daniel Sturridge, two other pundits, were quick to disagree with their colleague, and now Keys, a former presenter for Sky Sports, has added his voice to the discussion.
Never mind the best player in the history of the Premier League; Mo Salah could very well be Liverpool’s best player ever, despite the fact that he has never competed in a major tournament. That’s right. What a lack of knowledge. According to what Keys wrote on his personal blog, “unforgivable ignorance.”
Despite the fact that Keys does not specifically name Carragher in his online rant, it is abundantly clear that he is reacting to the comments that the Liverpool legend made after the match regarding the African Cup of Nations.
“Time and again down the years I’ve referenced the arrogance of so-called experts that live and work within the borders of the UK who think nothing beyond their territory matters,” said Keys in addition.
The reason why so many of them disregarded our World Cup here in Qatar is because it culminated with some of the most impressive football matches I’ve ever witnessed, despite the fact that it went on to become the best ever. “Qatar?” they sought to know. Is it not England? How come? How could something like that take place?
“That’s right. Egypt is the most successful team in the history of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), having won it seven times. Although Salah has not yet been victorious, he will have another opportunity to do so before the year is over. To be sure, this is not one of the most important tournaments, is it? Since it is not played in England or anywhere else in Europe, it is impossible for it to be.
Despite the fact that Carragher has not directly addressed the criticism that Keys and other individuals have expressed online, he has shared a post on social media platform X that was written by a supporter of his.
“It was obvious that Carra was using it in a relative sense,” the fan wrote in their correspondence. Clearly, it cannot be compared to the World Cup, the Euros, or even, to a lesser extent, the CA Tournament. It is being taken much too seriously at this point.
