Man Utd’s fresh stance on Thomas Tuchel amid crisis talks on Erik ten Hag future

Thomas Tuchel was favorite to succeed Erik ten Hag at Manchester United last summer, but there has been no further communication with the former Chelsea manager as the Old Trafford board meets.
Manchester United has not made a new approach for Thomas Tuchel, while Erik ten Hag’s future as head coach remains uncertain.
United have only eight points from their opening seven league games heading into the second international break of the season, with only newly promoted Southampton scoring fewer goals.
And United’s board met in London on Tuesday, with Ten Hag’s future set to be one among the subjects discussed.
However, Tuchel, who discussed replacing Ten Hag in the summer until United chose to hand the Dutchman a contract extension after he won the FA Cup, has not communicated with club officials in recent months, according to Sky Sports.
The former Chelsea manager has been out of job since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season and would like to return to the Premier League.
However, there is no evidence of discussions between his agents and the Old Trafford club about reopening. United have also been linked to former England manager Gareth Southgate and Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi.
Ten Hag is taking a small break during the international break and feels he still has the support of United’s board. Tuesday’s meeting had already been set, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe keen on organizing a monthly gathering.
After the boring stalemate at Aston Villa on Sunday, the under-pressure Dutchman said: “We’re all on the same page, we know what we’re doing. This is a long-term process.
“It is external noise. Internally, we’re disappointed and realize we need to perform better. Specifically, we need to score more. But I have no notion it is different since they would have told me. We communicate and are quite transparent.”United will return to play on October 19 with a home game against Brentford, followed by a Europa League trip to Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.
Meanwhile, Harry Maguire has revealed that he would be out for several weeks after hobbling off at halftime in Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa.
Under-pressure head coach Erik ten Hag reinstated the centre back to the starting lineup, but he limped out before halftime after injuring his lower leg while defending a set-piece. He was then spotted leaving Villa Park, wearing a protective boot.
In a brief post on social media, Maguire stated that he anticipated to miss several games. “Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend, will be a few weeks on the sideline for me but I’ll come back stronger,” he said to his Instagram feed.
