Joe Hugill has been granted a season-long loan to Wigan Athletic.

The 20-year-old striker was scheduled to embark on a pre-season tour with the first team; however, he chose to remain in the United Kingdom to finalise his transfer to the League One club.

Hugill has joined the Latics and anticipates accumulating additional first-team experience during the forthcoming season.

Burton Albion was the club where the former Sunderland academy player spent the latter half of the previous season, which means that he has already played in League One. Additionally, he intends to increase his goal scoring this time.

Hugill struck in United’s second pre-season friendly of the summer against Rangers last weekend.

In an interview with Wigan’s club media, he expressed his enthusiasm for the transfer, stating, “I am extremely pleased to be here.” It has been a long time in the making, but I am thrilled to have completed it and am eager to begin.

“To receive the number nine shirt is an immense honour, and I will wear it with immense pride.” I aspire to demonstrate my capabilities.

Hugill appears enthusiastic about commencing his tenure at Wigan, and we extend our best wishes to him for the forthcoming season.

The objective is to further his development and return to United as a more accomplished player.
