Breaking News:Arsenal expected to lose millions as wonderkid close to Man Utd agreement.
Manchester United are apparently in negotiations with an Arsenal wonderkid about a move, after the teenage striker’s contract with the Gunners expired at the end of June.
Chido Obi-Martin, a young player for Arsenal, is close to signing a contract with Manchester United once his current contract with the Gunners expires.
Last season, the 16-year-old made news when he scored an incredible ten goals in a 14-3 victory over Liverpool’s youth team.
The Athletic claims that Obi-Martin, who visited United’s Carrington training facility last week, is considering a transfer to the Red Devils. It is understood that the Gunners made an offer to prolong his stay at London Colney, at which point he would become a scholar and remain there until he turned 17 and signed a professional deal.
Obi-Martin, though, appears to desire a new beginning away from Arsenal, with United among the front-runners despite rumours of interest from nearby City. He scores 29 goals in 17 games for the under-18s, leaving the North London team full of confidence.
In March, Jack Wilshere, the youth manager at Arsenal, expressed his admiration for the outgoing attacker, especially following his four-goal performance against Crystal Palace. “A striker needs his teammates, midfielders, and defenders to score four goals, but it’s the hardest thing in football, and to do it four times as an under-16 in under-18s football takes some real personality,” the praised player said.
Not only is he improving that aspect of his game, but also his link-up play and his ability to press and create the tempo for us. I’m content with where he is right now, but there are still things to work on and improve on.”
He said in April that having a goal scorer like Chido, who is currently on fire and tends to put everything in the net, helps. He has put in a lot of work over the past few years, particularly during the last six weeks that he has been with us at Sobha Realty Training Centre, and he is now reaping the benefits of his labour. However, we also have to give the team a tonne of credit for providing him.”
Only a few months after surpassing Folarin Balogun’s record for the most goals an Under-18 player has scored for the team, it appears that Arsenal may lose the talented attacker.
According to Liverpool.com, Obi-Martin proved his mettle by outplaying Liverpool the previous season, and he looks to have a promising future. Arsenal would suffer greatly from his departure as they would have been paving the route for him to break into the starting lineup in the upcoming years.
