JUST IN: After being instructed by current Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca to find a new club by January, another Chelsea Flop who turned down Arsenal’s 2021 offer is now pleading for another chance to play under Arteta once again. Not Mudryk, not Caicedo

According to reports, Chelsea has extended an offer to Arsenal for Ben Chilwell in an effort to further reduce their payroll costs.

During his four injury-plagued years in West London, England defender Chilwell played more than 100 games with the first team after joining Chelsea from Leicester City in 2020. At the conclusion of the 2022–2023 season, the 27-year-old signed a contract extension that will keep him in the league through the summer of 2027.

However, after that contract was signed, he has fallen in the hierarchy due to two managerial changes. The left-back, who hardly played in the preseason, has been advised by his current manager, Enzo Maresca, that he will struggle to get minutes if he doesn’t get a move.

Although it’s far from simple, a move to Premier League rivals United is one of the options being considered. Chelsea’s strategy may make sense given that Erik ten Hag’s team is currently without injured players Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Chilwell has reportedly been offered to United, and Chelsea has said that they won’t obstruct a transfer, according to talkSPORT. Marc Cucurella will start at left back in Sunday’s match against Manchester City, although he was not included in Maresca’s squad.

Prior to the Premier League opening, Maresca stated, “With Chilly it’s quite clear.” “I adore his training style and personality, although he struggles a little bit to find his ideal place with us.

It’s bad for them and bad for me since I have to make decisions when I exercise every day and don’t receive minutes. Sometimes it’s preferable for certain players to go away and find another place to gain minutes. The window for transfers is open, so we’ll wait and see what occurs.

Chilwell is one of several senior players who Maresca did not choose in his team for the Europa Conference League play-off first leg against Servette on Thursday. Additionally, Raheem Sterling has been left off; on Wednesday, Pedro Neto, a summer addition, took his squad number from the former Manchester City player.

Chilwell and Sterling were not included in the Sunday’s matchday roster. “I don’t think Raheem is a bad player, but I like other types of wingers.” The manager explained, “This is the reason why.”
