Mikel Arteta reveals text message to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola after Premier League title agony

After the Premier League title race was over, Mikel Arteta texted Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City. The manager of Arsenal also disclosed this information.

Last month, the Premier League title was heartbroken for the second time for the manager of Arsenal, as Pep Guardiola’s team achieved a record-breaking fourth consecutive title. The loss came to the manager of his former club, Manchester City.

With a 3-1 victory over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium on the last day of the season to secure a sixth title in seven years, Manchester City went over the 90-point mark and finished two points ahead of the Gunners in the title race.

But throughout the season, Guardiola’s team was unable to defeat Arsenal; they lost in the FA Community Shield, at the Emirates Stadium, and in a goalless draw at the Etihad Stadium in March.

28 Premier League games were won by both City and Arsenal during the season, but it was the Blues’ remarkable run of victories beginning in early December that decided the outcome, as the north London team lost to Aston Villa.

When Arteta moved to east Manchester in December 2019, he took a break from Guardiola’s first-team coaching staff to take the helm at the Emirates Stadium, where he won his final Premier League championship.

After moving from Bayern Munich to the Etihad Stadium in 2016, the 53-year-old manager of Arsenal became a member of Guardiola’s staff. Since then, the Sky Blues have won 17 major trophies.

Arteta disclosed to Guardiola that he texted him after the race for the championship.

“I congratulated him and the entire team.” They earned it in the end,” he told CNN.

In addition to the rivalry and professional relationship, there are also, of course, my personal feelings for him and the entire staff. I had four wonderful years there in Manchester, and I will always remember that.

With Guardiola’s contract expiring in 2025 and the likelihood that this season will be his last at the Etihad, Arteta may become a candidate to succeed him as Manchester City manager in the future.
