When Atletico Madrid returns to La Liga action on Sunday afternoon at home against Leganes, they will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak in all competitions.

Even though Diego Simeone’s team has only won one of their previous four home games, they are still third in La Liga, while Leganes, who have played nine league games this season, are in 17th place with eight points.

Despite being seven points behind leaders Barcelona, Atletico is still undefeated in La Liga after winning four and drawing five of their nine games to accumulate 17 points. They currently sit third in the standings.

Only one of Simeone’s squad’s four league victories came at the end of September, a 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo. The team has drawn its previous two games in the top flight of Spain, against Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Although Atletico is undefeated in the league this season, they have already lost badly in the Champions League, falling to Benfica 4-0 at the beginning of the month. This has put pressure on Atletico to win when Lille visits Wanda Metropolitano in the Champions League the following week.

Atletico will also play Real Betis in La Liga at the busy end of the month. On October 31, they will start their 2024–25 Copa del Rey season away at Vic.

The Red and Whites have only scored 13 goals in their nine league games this year, but they have the best defensive record in the division and have once again proved to be difficult to score against, giving up only five goals.

Leganes, on the other hand, have only managed one victory, five draws, and three losses in their nine league games this season. With eight points overall, Leganes is currently ranked 17th in the standings.

They have struggled to score goals, managing only five, which ties them with Valencia and Real Valladolid for the lowest offensive record in the division. However, they have only given up nine goals, indicating that this weekend’s match in the Spanish capital may be low-scoring.

Leganes has only lost a third of its league games in 2024–25, which is a great plus. However, they will need to find a method to win if they want to avoid dropping out this season.

In fact, Borja Jimenez’s team enters this game on a three-game winning streak; since their most recent loss to Athletic Bilbao in mid-September, they have shared the points with Getafe, Rayo Vallecano, and Valencia.

When the two teams met last in January 2020, El Lega actually held Atletico to a goalless draw, despite Atletico’s last two victories over the promoted team were both 1-0.
